We see them on he street. We know that they exist. Hungry children and families live in our communities and attend our churches. The poor are everywhere.
We say we are Christians. We believe Jesus, we have accepted him as our savior, and pattern our lives by the example which Jesus set as he walked this earth before he gave his life for us. Well, then why do we pass those who are hungry and poor without helping them? Do you think Jesus would have done that if he was still walking the earth?
As a Christian, I believe that we should make ourselves available to those needing help. I believe as we are blessed by God through his son Jesus, we should bless others. This means: if we are blessed with money, we should give some to those who need it. If we have plenty to eat and more then we need, we should give some to the hungry. If we have learned important truths, we should share these with others. Whatever we are blessed with, we should share with those in need.
I failed at this myself in the past, but have changed that in the past few years. My house is open to those in need. I am poor myself by most standards, living on a very limited income. All that I do have is to be shared.
I have seen churches refuse to help people who did not go to their church. I have seen people say they don't have it to give while they leave from church to go to a restaurant and have a big fancy meal.
I have seen churches work endlessly on a building fund, while they watch people starving, and living without heat in their homes. The people make up a church and are more important then a building. The true church is the one true church headed by Jesus. We all belong to it.
This is sad. We are a part of Jesus' Church. We are blessed each and every day. Yet, buildings become more important then people. This is not following the example of our savior.
It seems the more many churches are given the less they give to those in need.
I am not putting down churches. I am only expressing my own observations. I want those who visit this page of the site to take a look at your own giving and what your church is doing for the poor and hurting people in your communities. If they are giving like they should, then great. If not, it is time to get the attention of those who are not.
Read John Chapter 6...In this chapter you will see that Jesus fed 5000 people.
It showed how by being willing to share but a little, many were fed. Jesus was able to make much more food available. It was a miracle. He gave thanks for what he had and was willing to share it. God blessed his efforts.
Lets take the time to give thanks for what we have, and share it with those in need.
Remember Acts 20:35; I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. (NKJ Version)
Let the blessings you receive be the food of your soul, and I hope that you pass these blessings on to others.
